Private Diagnostic Clinic at Duke University Medical Center Chooses Hayes Management Consulting’s MDaudit™

Audit automation software aids University’s quality improvement initiative

Newton, MA, April 7, 2008 – Hayes Management Consulting announced today that it will provide its MDaudit™ software to the Duke University Medical Center’s faculty physician organization, Private Diagnostic Clinic (PDC). By automating the administrative aspects of billing compliance auditing, MDaudit significantly improves audit productivity, increases audit accuracy and quality, maximizes revenue and provides a standardized, streamlined environment for compliance departments. It is currently in use at seven of the top fifteen healthcare organizations in the country, as identified by US News & World Report.

“We are committed to continued quality improvement in every aspect of our practice,” says Mark Cantrell, Chief Compliance Officer, PDC. “By improving the quality and efficiency of our billing compliance system, we will have more time to assist physicians so that they can spend more time with patients.”

MDaudit was designed to help organizations reduce compliance risk by increasing productivity so that more time can be allotted to physician education. Some organizations have taken this a step further to review and correct not just overcoding, but undercoding as well – ensuring that physicians are paid correctly for services rendered. Some have also used the extra time to help physicians with coding up front, to the benefit of patients and the organization.

“When services are properly coded, everyone wins,” says Pete Butler, President of Hayes Management Consulting. “Compliance officers can mitigate risk, financial executives can monitor the ‘money left on the table’ through undercoding, and physicians can enjoy accelerated reimbursement and enhanced coding education.”

Hayes Helps Develop "Clinic of the Future"

Hayes is currently extending its expertise beyond physician groups and hospitals to a Fortune 100 company located on the west coast. Known for its innovation, the company asked Hayes to help them with the development of a unique and futuristic employee health clinic. The client’s vision is to develop an innovative, consumer-centric health center for employees, their dependents and significant others. The employee clinic will be a paperless environment where results from scales, blood pressure monitors, treadmills, EKG devices, and more will populate the electronic medical record – which will automatically be shown on a 50” plasma monitor. This will enable patient and physician to view the medical record together, access reference materials, view x-rays, get medical information such as educational videos, consult with a physician in another location, or check on the patient's children being entertained by video games in the next room.

The IT story lives in the integration of multiple services and associated applications within the clinic.  The health center is expected to house the health clinic, laboratory, radiology, pharmacy, physical therapy, chiropractic, acupuncture, employee assistance program, disease management program and dental departments. The health center will also utilize the new fitness center services.  Data will be shared across the 12+ vendors using an integration engine.  Single sign on will be implemented to provide providers with secure and quick access to the many systems.  A portable Personal Health Record (PHR) that is integrated with the EMR will allow employees and their dependents 24 hours access to their medical history.
